Ogontz is a neighborhood in North Philadelphia near the city's northern boundary. The neighborhood takes its name from Ogontz Avenue and the historic Ogontz School that once operated in the area. It serves as a residential area with access to the Broad Street Line.

History

[edit | edit source]

The neighborhood is named for the Ogontz School, a finishing school for women that operated in the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The name "Ogontz" itself came from a chief of the Ottawa people. The area developed as a residential neighborhood as Philadelphia expanded northward.
