Sharswood is a neighborhood in North Philadelphia undergoing major redevelopment. The neighborhood is the site of the Philadelphia Housing Authority's largest redevelopment project, transforming the former Norman Blumberg public housing complex into mixed-income housing.
History
[edit | edit source]Sharswood is named for George Sharswood, a 19th-century Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice. The neighborhood was long dominated by the Norman Blumberg Apartments, a public housing high-rise complex that became a symbol of concentrated poverty.
